Just a short five-minute drive from our home lies Morrison, Colorado—a little town with a whole lot of character. Even though we’ve only recently moved here, it’s already become one of our favorite spots for a quick getaway. With welcoming restaurants, outdoor adventures, and winding scenic drives, Morrison makes for the perfect small-town escape.

Where to Eat in Morrison
Despite its small size, Morrison has plenty of eateries worth trying. So far, we’ve sampled a couple of local favorites—and we’ll be adding to this list as we explore more!
Morrison Inn
Right in the heart of town, Morrison Inn is a lively Mexican restaurant known for its rooftop seating and daily live music. While the food itself is solid (I’d give it a 3.5/5), the margaritas and atmosphere are the real standouts. Come for happy hour, grab an appetizer, and soak in the music as the sun sets—it’s the perfect way to kick off an evening in Morrison.

The Cow, An Eatery
If you’re craving something a bit more versatile, The Cow delivers. With a wide-ranging menu, great cocktails, and decadent desserts, this spot earns at least a 4.2/5 in my book. While the ambiance is pretty simple, the food more than makes up for it.

Outdoor Activities in Morrison
One of Morrison’s biggest draws is its access to nature. From casual strolls along a creek to iconic red rock formations, there’s something for every level of adventurer.
Bike Path by the Creek
Running right through town, Morrison’s bike path is perfect for a leisurely walk, bike ride, or jog. It’s family-friendly and a great way to enjoy the fresh mountain air.
Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre
Even if you’re not here for a concert, Red Rocks is worth the trip. The trails weave among massive sandstone formations that glow red in the sunlight. The hike is about three miles round-trip with moderate elevation gain, making it suitable for kids and dogs (just keep an eye out for rattlesnakes). Arrive early or avoid weekends for the best experience.
Lair o’ the Bear Park
Just outside Morrison, Lair o’ the Bear is a family favorite. The Bear Creek Trail to the castle is a flat, two-mile out-and-back that runs alongside a creek. Kids will love splashing in the water and tossing rocks, and adults will enjoy the easy pace. Do keep watch for bikers and local wildlife—bears have been spotted on the trail.
Scenic Drives
If you’re in the mood for a short road trip, the 20-minute drive from Morrison to Evergreen is absolutely worth it. The winding road offers gorgeous mountain scenery, and since you’ll pass Lair o’ the Bear on the way, it’s easy to stop for a quick hike before continuing on.
Evergreen itself is tucked higher in the mountains and has its own charm. From there, you can connect to I-70 and head deeper into Colorado’s mountain towns—Breckenridge, Vail, and Copper Mountain are all about an hour away.
Shopping in Morrison
Despite its small size, Morrison is packed with adorable boutiques. Store hours can be a little limited (many close around 4 p.m.), so plan to browse earlier in the day.
Bandimere Speedway
For a completely different kind of thrill, check out Bandimere Speedway—also known as Thunder Mountain. This NHRA dragstrip just outside town seats more than 23,000 fans and is home to the Mopar Mile-High Nationals. Even if racing isn’t your thing, the roar of the engines adds a unique energy to Morrison on race weekends.
